I looked at symbol sets and developed a few broad formats to iterate within. It is important to leverage existing content which can streamline what a client does and does not want in the finished work. I selected elements that I liked and was careful to eliminate elements that I do not want. After creating multiple options for each symbol set, I refined the best elements of each iteration into a finished set. The retained elements were ones that created a consistent feel across each symbol while delivering clarity.

This type of custom creation can be a crucial element to the success of a technical writing product when congruency with brand or genre are critical aspects of product success. It demonstrates an awareness of genre as icons sets must not only be congruent within the set but also match the broader context of their application. Symbols are an important part of effective and fast communication of Technical content.
