I created a podcast episode and a promotional strategy to demonstrate my ability to not only produce content across a variety of platforms but also the ability to efficiently integrate that content in a business strategy. It was developed with both my personal experience with the genre as well as online research of comparable works. This demonstrated a critical evaluation of genre within a visual medium.
To create this podcast, I first determined a target audience for motorcycle content, new riders. New riders typically need to buy a lot of new gear that supports the motorcycling lifestyle and are therefore a great audience for targeted advertising. After determining the audience, I reviewed other motorcycle blogs and podcasts for common content to ensure that my podcast fit within the genre. Almost every channel, blog, and podcast related to motorcycle riding creates introductory videos. It made sense to select this genre and create an introduction to track days which conveniently encouraged viewers to purchase gear that the brand sold.
Creating a podcast was significantly different from creating written media because voice is a very different. The standards of academic writing that most American students learn in school does not translate well to a script, so I had to dawn a new perspective and try to write as though I was talking into a mic. This ended up working out pretty well and I enjoyed the process of writing for spoken media.
I ensured the promotional content aligned with the podcast’s tone by constantly reminding myself to create from the perspective of a friendly, grizzled track veteran who wanted to help bring up the next generation. This working well across this project and the other projects related to this brand, whether I was creating visual, auditory, or written media.
