Final Dashboard

In a data driven world, it is more critical to look at data correctly than it is to have data available. This dashboard demonstrates my ability to use current software solutions within the data visualization space to accomplish deliverables for accurate and instant data insights.

To address the needs of my audience, I leveraged a few visual elements in Tableau such as coloring trend lines by parameter names which separates and colors codes them. I also leveraged a lot of explanatory text which is useful when displaying a new dashboard for a broader audience. Over time, I generally come back to a dashboard and remove the explanatory text which allows me to expand the area used to display data. This trade-off increases the learning curve for fresh eyes, but it is beneficial in most contexts that I have worked in.

To break complex data trends into accessible information, it is often best to break them up into separate visual aids. If the cause and effects relationships are not easy to see, it can be helpful to plot causes and effects separately so that connections can be made. I generally find that an overly complicated visual can become intuitive when split into two or even three visuals. The queries and calculated fields also tend to become easier with this method of simplification.

Layout and information hierarchy are important considerations when creating dashboards. The flexible and intuitive layout tools in Tableau make it easy to manipulate the views until the desired outcome is reached. In general, a process should have a main dashboard for all the critical and high-level information. Additional views should not take away from the original view because most audiences will not adjust filters, change parameters, or cycle through multiple sheets. The first sheet must be the most impactful and cover the most critical information.
